NoteSnap is available on Google Play Store for Android devices. Download it free at: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.zenerly.notesnap.mobile
An iOS (App Store) version is coming soon. Join the early access list at notesnap.zenerly.com.
When you open NoteSnap for the first time:
๐ Privacy first: NoteSnap never uploads your notes to any server. Everything stays on your device.
Tapping the purple + floating button on the Home screen now opens the Template Picker โ a bottom sheet where you choose what kind of note to create:
Drag the sheet down or tap outside it to dismiss without creating a note.
The toolbar at the top of the note editor contains:
When a note was created from a template, a coloured template badge (e.g. "โ๏ธ Travel Checklist") appears in the toolbar next to the checklist toggle.
Tap the โบ reset icon at any time to revert the note back to exactly how it was when you opened it โ the original saved content for an existing note, or the blank/template starting point for a brand-new one. A confirmation appears first since this can't be undone.
Tap the ๐จ palette icon in the toolbar to reveal 10 colour options:
Tags help you group related notes. To add a tag:
work, ideas)Tags appear as #hashtags on note cards and are searchable from the Home screen.
NoteSnap can read text out of a photo and drop it straight into your note โ handy for whiteboards, printed pages, or handwritten notes. All recognition happens on-device; nothing is uploaded anywhere.
From the + Template Picker, tap Scan with Camera or Import from Photos to create a brand-new note directly from a photo.
From the note editor's ๐ Attach menu, choose Scan Document to open the full document scanner. It automatically detects the page edges, straightens the perspective, and lets you clean up and add more pages. When you finish, every page is OCR'd and its text added to the note, with the first page attached as the note image.
From the ๐ Attach menu, choose Scan QR / Barcode, point the camera at a code, and its value (a link, Wi-Fi detail, product code, and so on) is added straight into your note.
๐ก Tip: For checklist notes, each recognised line becomes its own checklist item automatically. Everything is processed on-device โ no photo or code ever leaves your phone.
Dictate a note instead of typing it โ NoteSnap transcribes your speech on-device as you talk.
Tap the ๐ read-aloud icon in the note editor toolbar to have NoteSnap read the note's title and content back to you using your device's text-to-speech voice โ great for proofreading or hands-free review. Tap it again to stop.
Want to keep the actual audio, not just a transcript? Tap the ๐ voice-memo icon to record a clip and attach it to the note. A play chip appears below the toolbar โ tap it to listen, or the โ to remove the clip.
Set a reminder on any note and NoteSnap will send you a notification at the time you choose.
When setting a reminder you can pick a repeat: Never, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly. Yearly is perfect for birthdays and anniversaries; monthly suits rent and bill reminders. Reminders play your device's default notification tone.
Tap the ๐ location icon in the toolbar to be reminded about a note when you next arrive at your current location โ for example, leave yourself a "buy milk" note that pops up when you reach the shop. Location reminders need location permission (allow "all the time" so they can fire while the app is closed).
Once a note has a time reminder, tap the ๐ calendar icon on the reminder chip to also add it as an event in your device calendar.
At the scheduled time (or on arrival, for location reminders), NoteSnap sends a notification with the note's title and a preview. Tapping it opens the note directly.
Permission required: Your device will ask for notification permission the first time you set a reminder. If you decline, NoteSnap will ask again the next time you try.
Any note โ new or existing โ can be turned into a checklist. Open the note and tap the โ checklist icon in the toolbar. NoteSnap will:
Tap the toggle again to switch back to plain text โ your items are joined back as lines.
On the Home screen, checklist note cards show:

Tap a filter pill to switch between views instantly.
Use the search bar at the top of the Home screen to find notes by:
work)Results update in real-time as you type. Tap โ to clear the search.
Pinned notes appear at the top of the Notes view in a Pinned section:
Go to Settings โ Notes โ Sort by to choose:
Toggle the view layout using the grid/list icon in the top-right of the Home screen, or in Settings โ Notes โ View layout.
Long-press (hold) any note card to open a quick-actions menu:
The Archive is a separate view for notes you want to keep but don't need day-to-day. Archived notes don't appear in the main Notes list.
๐ก Tip: Archive is not Delete. Archived notes are preserved indefinitely and are included in your encrypted backup exports. Delete is permanent โ archive is reversible.
From any note, tap the Share icon in the editor toolbar, or long-press a note card โ Share Note.
Opens your default email app with the note title as the subject and the note body pre-filled. Ready to address and send.
Opens a mailto: link that pre-fills subject and body in your email app.
Opens WhatsApp with the note text pre-filled as a message. Select your contact or group and tap send. WhatsApp must be installed.
Copies the full note text to your clipboard. A confirmation banner appears. Paste anywhere โ SMS, Notes, Slack, etc.
Saves the note as a plain .txt file and opens your device's share sheet so you can send it to any app.
Renders the full note (title, content or checklist) as a PNG image โ ideal for apps that display images nicely, like messaging or social apps.
Generates a formatted PDF document of the note โ checklists render with checkboxes โ and opens the share sheet.
Opens your device's native share sheet, giving access to every app on your device: Telegram, Drive, Keep, OneNote, etc.
๐ Checklist notes: When sharing a checklist note, the text is formatted with bullet symbols (โ unchecked, โ checked) so it reads cleanly in any app. Every text/image/PDF export also includes a small "โ Shared via NoteSnap" footer with the date.
NoteSnap can also receive content from other apps:
Go to the Backup tab (cloud icon in the bottom navigation).
.zip file is created using AES-256 encryptionโ ๏ธ Important: Remember your export password! If you lose it, your backup cannot be decrypted. NoteSnap has no recovery mechanism by design โ your security, your control.
The backup includes all notes โ including archived ones, checklist items, template metadata, colours, and tags.
.zip file from your device storage๐ก Tip: Create a dedicated "NoteSnap Backups" folder in Google Drive so your files stay organised.
The Backup tab displays the date of your last backup so you always know when to export again โ or let NoteSnap handle it for you:
Note: automatic backups are saved locally on your device, not uploaded anywhere. Use the manual Export options above whenever you want to send a copy to Google Drive, Dropbox, or elsewhere.
The Vault is a dedicated tab for storing sensitive information โ passwords, card details, PINs, API keys, and secure notes. All data is encrypted at rest using the device's secure storage. Biometric authentication is always required to open the Vault, even when App Lock is disabled.
Auto-locks on background: The Vault locks itself whenever NoteSnap goes to the background โ independently of the App Lock setting. Every session requires fresh authentication.
Instead of typing everything by hand, let NoteSnap read a photo and fill in fields for you.
To fill just one field instead, tap the small ๐ท scan icon next to that individual field.
NoteSnap can offer your saved passwords when you're filling in a login form in any app or browser โ not just inside NoteSnap.
Android only. Autofill uses Android's system Autofill framework, which iOS does not expose to third-party apps the same way.
Tap the โบ reset icon next to Save in the Add/Edit Secret header to discard everything you've changed since opening the form โ it reverts to the original secret's saved values, or a blank form when adding a new one.
Sensitive fields (passwords, card numbers, CVV, PINs, API keys) are masked with โขโขโขโขโขโขโขโข by default in the vault list.
Tap the copy icon next to any field to copy its value to the clipboard. A brief confirmation appears. You can copy masked fields without revealing them.
Every category lets you add custom fields beyond the preset ones. In the Add/Edit form, tap Add Field, give it a label, enter a value, and toggle whether it should be treated as sensitive (masked by default).
The Vault and Lock screens are screenshot-proof: Android blocks screenshots and screen recording while they're open, and hides their contents in the recent-apps switcher, so your secrets can't be captured โ even by another app recording the screen.
Storage: Vault data is stored in expo-secure-store, which uses the Android Keystore / iOS Secure Enclave. It is not stored in regular AsyncStorage and is not included in the Backup ZIP export โ it remains on-device only.
Add NoteSnap widgets to your phone's home screen for one-tap access without opening the app.
The Favourite widget works a little differently from the others, since it needs to know which note to show:
Each Favourite widget you add is independent โ add a second one and pick a different note for it without changing the first. There's no built-in way to re-pick a note for a widget already on your home screen; remove it and add a new one instead.
๐ก Tip: Checklist items you tick off in the widget sync back into the app automatically the next time you open NoteSnap.
NoteSnap adds a Quick Settings tile so you can start a note from your notification shade. Pull down twice, tap the pencil/edit icon (or add the NoteSnap tile from the "edit tiles" screen), and a new quick note opens instantly.
Long-press the NoteSnap app icon on your home screen (Android) to jump straight into:
Note: NoteSnap never stores your biometric data. Authentication is handled entirely by your device's secure enclave โ NoteSnap only receives a pass/fail result.
Configure when NoteSnap locks after going to the background:
NoteSnap supports 18 languages, automatically selected from your device locale:
To change the language manually: Settings โ Language โ select from the list. All UI text, including template category labels and note editor buttons, is translated.
Make sure you have biometrics (fingerprint / Face ID) enrolled in your device settings (Settings โ Security โ Fingerprint / Biometrics on Android). NoteSnap can only use biometrics that are already registered on your device.
Install the Dropbox app from the Play Store first. After installation, return to the NoteSnap Backup tab and tap Dropbox again โ NoteSnap detects the app automatically. If you don't have Dropbox, use Share (General) and pick Google Drive from the share sheet instead.
WhatsApp must be installed on your device. If you see an error, open WhatsApp directly and paste your clipboard content using the Copy to Clipboard share option instead.
The password is case-sensitive. If you've forgotten the password, the backup file cannot be recovered โ this is by design for security. Always note your backup password somewhere safe (like a password manager).
The Import function replaces all existing notes with the imported set. If this was unintended, re-import your current backup immediately to restore your notes.
Switching a checklist note back to text mode converts each item to a line of plain text. If you switch to text mode and then back to checklist, the items are re-created from the text lines. No data is permanently lost โ just re-toggle the mode.
NoteSnap stores a text representation of checklist notes to make them searchable. This is expected behaviour โ checklist item text is indexed so you can find notes by their content.
Switch to List view in Settings for better performance with 200+ notes. List view renders cards faster than Grid view.
The direct add button needs Android 8.0+ and launcher support. If it doesn't work, add the widget manually instead: long-press your home screen โ Widgets โ find NoteSnap.
Make sure NoteSnap is selected as your device's Autofill service (Vault tab โ Enable Autofill banner, or your phone's Settings โ Passwords/Autofill). Only Password-category Vault items are offered, matched by the secret's title.
Check that notification permission is granted to NoteSnap in your device settings, and that battery optimisation isn't restricting background delivery for the app.
Smart Scan is a best-effort reader โ lighting, glare, and unusual card layouts can trip it up. Every field stays editable, so just correct anything that came out wrong before saving.
NoteSnap downloads app updates in the background automatically. Once one finishes downloading, you'll see a prompt to restart and install it โ tap Restart Now, or Later to keep working and be asked again next time you reopen the app.
